Why Choose the TRMS Lower Elementary Program?
Building upon the foundational principles of the Montessori Casa program, our Lower Elementary program maintains an individualized approach to learning. The classroom is created as a microcosm of a community, where students work independently while also cooperating within a group setting. This environment not only promotes personal growth but also teaches the importance of teamwork and social interaction.
Program Features
Academics in Math, Language, Science, & Technology
Our enriched language arts program nurtures students’ literacy skills, while our robust STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum encourages intellectual curiosity and critical thinking.
We develop digital literacy, by introducing students to coding and by providing tablets for students in Grades 1 and 2, and Chromebooks for those in Grade 3. Technology is used as a tool to supplement learning.
Cultural & Character Studies
Our cultural studies curriculum delves into History, Geography, Botany, and Zoology, facilitating a deeper understanding of the world. Each grade level engages in specialized exercises and hands-on projects.
We also highly value character education, teaching essential life skills like cooperation, respect, empathy, and kindness. These are reinforced alongside the notions of fairness and active citizenship, promoting a sense of social responsibility in our students.
Field Trips & Off-Site Physical Education
We incorporate experiential learning through curriculum-based field trips and off-site phys. ed. Field trips provide our students with an immersive learning experience, and enriching classroom instruction with real-world insights.
We believe in the importance of varied and engaging physical activities which builds healthy habits. We offer Phys. Ed. programs in skating, swimming, and multi-sports, conducted off-site under the supervision of trained professionals.
French & Music
Starting in grade 1 students build on their Casa knowledge of oral French language skills and begin to learn to read and write in French. This is achieved through engaging activities, games and music.
Our music program begins with introducing Grades 1 and 2 students to the fundamentals of note reading and the Montessori Bells, fostering an understanding of musical tones and pitch. In Grade 3, students are introduced to the ukulele, promoting their musical creativity and coordination.
Our Homework Policy
Our Lower Elementary programs adopt a structured approach towards homework. Assignments are assigned on a weekly basis, encouraging students to develop time management skills. These weekly tasks include studying for a spelling test, completing math exercises, and engaging in reading activities.
Throughout the academic year, students are required to work on three special assignments that will involve parental assistance. These include a written book report in the first term, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) fair project in the second term, and an oral presentation in the third term.
